Five Injured in Tel Aviv Area Following Hezbollah Missile Attack

Five injured near Tel Aviv by the impact of a missile launched by Hezbollah

Five people have been injured this Monday, including a 54-year-old woman in serious condition, following the firing of a missile by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah against the center of Israel while the exchange of attacks intensifies parallel to what seems to be the final stretch of the negotiation for a truce.

After the activation of sirens in numerous densely populated localities around Tel Aviv, warning of an attack by projectiles, drones, or missiles, the Israeli defense system detected a missile fired from Lebanon. According to the army’s initial statement, the Air Force managed to intercept it, but the remains of the neutralization missile hit the city of Ramat Gan, causing injuries and destruction.

“A fall was identified in the area; it was probably shrapnel from the launched interceptor,” the army stated. However, later clarification from the head of district police in Tel Aviv stated that the impact was directly from the missile, confirming it contained a large explosive charge. It indicated that the David’s Sling system did not intercept it or, if it did, only partially managed to do so.

An empty bus, several shops, and part of a large building were hit, leading to injuries, a fire, material damage, and widespread power outages in a bustling urban area during the day in Ramat Gan, located very close to the small town of Bnei Brak. Notably, the street under attack was named after Israel’s founding father, Ben Gurion.

Due to the sirens activated in large parts of the central region, impacting more than a million people, operations at Ben Gurion Airport were momentarily suspended, involving landings and takeoffs.

Hours earlier, an Arab-Israeli teacher was killed, and five additional people were injured by a projectile launched by Hezbollah against a residential building in the town of Shfaram, in northern Israel. The remaining projectiles were intercepted amidst a day marked by sirens and defensive measures.

The Unfolding Attacks and Negotiations

As anticipated, reports surfacing about a potential truce agreement between Israel and Hezbollah are juxtaposed with rising mutual aggression.

While the pro-Iran militia amplifies the launch of its missiles, drones, and projectiles primarily targeting northern Israel, the Israeli Air Force has significantly ramped up bombing campaigns in Lebanon. At least five fatalities and over 20 injuries have been reported in Beirut as a result of air attacks by the Israeli army, which is also continuing its ground incursions into Lebanese territory near the border, anticipating further developments if ceasefire negotiations falter.

In light of this tense situation, American envoy Amos Hochstein is scheduled to meet with the Lebanese Parliament’s president and Hezbollah ally, Nabih Berri, in Beirut on Tuesday to gauge the response to the truce proposal delivered last week.

Confirmation of Hochstein’s trip to the region followed positive indications regarding a potential agreement in principle to mitigate hostilities initiated by Hezbollah on October 8 of the previous year in solidarity with Hamas. Upon concluding meetings in Beirut, Hochstein may also travel to Israel.
