China, Venezuela, Cuba and Panama
In a rapid rush of condolences following the passing of former President Jimmy Carter at 100 years old, it’s astonishing to witness how world leaders, particularly from authoritarian regimes, are quick to claim the legacy of a man who once fought for human rights. These leaders are exploiting this moment to position themselves favorably in global optics. The world cannot ignore the irony!
Carter’s recognition of Beijing’s claims over Taiwan back in 1979 certainly did not come without strings attached, and now, the Chinese government is using the opportunity to cozy up to the United States once again. Mao Ning, the spokesperson for China’s Foreign Affairs, is perhaps too eager as he states, “Carter was a promoter and responsible for the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.”
Meanwhile, Miguel Diáz-Canel, the president of Cuba, shamelessly capitalized on this moment by praising Carter’s so-called efforts in improving relations with the island. “Our people will remember with gratitude his efforts,” he claims, referencing Carter’s controversial standing on freedom for political prisoners—now, that’s a debatable legacy!
Condolences to the people and government of the United States, especially to the family and loved ones of President James Carter. Not to be forgotten is Nicolas Maduro, who hailed Carter as a “man of peace and dialogue.” In the context of the Venezuelan regime, we must question—what does that even mean? His “dedication to peace” is under scrutiny from every angle!
Across oceans, Egypt’s Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is singing songs of praise for Carter’s role in the Camp David Accords with Israel, while Panama’s President Jose Raúl Mulino—the country that finally gained the rightful sovereignty over the canal—also chimed in supporting the Torrijos-Carter Treaty. The disconnection from true history is palpable!
European Leaders
Now, let’s move to Europe, where leaders were quick to step in. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz tweeted that “the world has lost a great mediator for peace in the Middle East and for human rights,” but really, is this the world we want to live in?
We join our American friends in mourning the loss of their former President Jimmy Carter. The US has lost a committed fighter for democracy. The world has lost a great mediator for peace in the Middle East and for human rights. pic.twitter.com/Wy0X0wgU52

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, on the other hand, highlighted the so-called “decades of selfless public service.” But can we trust these principled statements from those who have placed their nations in such challenging predicaments?
Even Emmanuel Macron jumped into the fray, proclaiming him a firm defender of vulnerable rights. But we must ask—is this merely political theater, or is it genuinely heartfelt?
Throughout his life, Jimmy Carter has been a steadfast advocate for the rights of the most vulnerable and has tirelessly fought for peace. France sends its heartfelt thoughts to his family and to the American people.

Lastly, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky expresses gratitude for Carter’s support during dark times, while Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán offers “deepest condolences.” It’s touching, or is it just another opportunity for virtue signaling?
